I was born in St. Louis Missouri, but came to Kansas City, Missouri with my Mother, Rosemary and three sisters, Deborah, Angel and Sheri, when I was nine years old. We lived in the Wayne Minor Housing Project. My Mother joined Greater Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in Kansas City, Missouri. Me and my sisters would go away every weekend to visit our grandparents, Forreak and Katie Chiney and aunt and uncle, Frank and Flozel Grant, who lived in the same house (upper and lower levels). They played a large part in raising us. We didn't have television and that's the only time we had a chance to watch TV. All we watched was family programming: Andy Griffin, Lawrence Welk, The Ed Sullivan Show (the Beatles, the Temptations & the Jackson 5 and the Lennon Sisters), American Bandstand and later on Laugh in. But my Grandmother loved Elvis Presley and we would get to watch all his movies.

My mother became ill and was taken from the home. At 13 and 14, me and my older sister had teenage pregnancies. Our daughters would be born five days apart in 1970. Three of the siblings went to live with relatives. The oldest, Deborah stayed in the apartment, Angel went with the Grandparents, and me and Sheri (the baby girl) went to live with our biological aunt, Berniece Trigg and her husband, James Trigg, who was a preacher, where I learned about God. They raised us like we were their own. Uncle Jimmy was the interim Pastor at First Christain Church on Linwood (Kansas City, Missouri) for a year where I was a director for the choir. I remember directing "Oh Happy Day" and "Lord I'm Running" - my two favorite songs. When I was 16 years old, I actually received Christ and joined Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas with my close friend, Jocelyn and her sister, my classmate, Berniece, that lived across the street from us. I sang my first solo "Walk Around Heaven" while attending that church. I left home at sixteen (because of conflicts), and lost contact with my friends and strayed away from church. Aunt Berniece died and Uncle Jimmy remarried and had a son, James, Jr. (Jamie, my only brother). Uncle Jimmy died a year later. In 1980, I had another daughter, Me'chelle Antoinetta, out of wedlock. I strayed away completely from church. It was a very dark time in my life.

In 1985 I attended another Church of God in Christ, New Hope Tabernacle of Faith, with my best friend, Angela for the first time since I had strayed away. I did not surrender at that time, but the seed was truly planted. Not soon afterward, I was sitting alone in my home feeling totally lost when Tammy Faye Baker came on the television with her big hair and long eyelashes and said come to Jesus today, and I burst into tears and came back to Christ right there in the front room of my home. It was the first time I had actually heard Him calling. The Spirit told me to return to the church I had attended with my friend, New Hope Tabernacle of Faith, Elder Earnest & Missionary Roberta Fisher, where I served for 10 years as the Pastor's Aide Leader, Choir Director, Sunday School and YPWW teacher. There I was sanctified and received the Holy Ghost. Under this "faith" ministry, I began participating in the District and State activities. Pastor Fisher introduced me to the Ray Manning Singers who I sang with for 2 years.

In 1994, the Lord moved me to Greater Inspirational Church of God in Christ, Elder Andrew Ward & Missionary Dawna Ward, where I also served as the Pastor's Aide Leader and Jurisdictional Music Department Secretary and sang with the GIC Radio Choir for 5 years. In 1999, I married Donald Smith, Jr and joined my husband at Barker Temple Church of God in Christ (then), Kansas City, Missouri, Elder John Mark (then) and First Lady Charlotte Johnson. The Barker Temple congregation relocated and changed the name to Barker Memorial Cathedral of Praise. The Lord has blessed me to continue to serve there in that vineyard with my husband until November 27, 2022, when He called me back to my original church, New Hope Tabernacle of Faith, where we now serve.

I have served in many capacities on all levels of the church.

To God be the glory for the things He has done! It's all about the Praise!

Autobiography of The Praise Raiser
Good is Just God Stretching Out!
The dead praise not the Lord, neither any that go down into silence.
But we wll bless the Lord from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the Lord.
